Cardiovascular Medicine Supply for Hospitals & International Buyers
Cardiovascular disease is the single largest cause of death globally, responsible for an estimated 17.9 million deaths per year according to the World Health Organization. In the GCC region, rates of hypertension, dyslipidaemia and ischaemic heart disease are elevated by dietary patterns, sedentary lifestyles and high prevalence of type 2 diabetes, placing exceptional demand on hospital cardiology services and outpatient medicine supply chains. Across sub-Saharan Africa, rheumatic heart disease and hypertensive heart failure remain significant burdens, often affecting working-age adults, and access to basic cardiovascular medicines is inconsistently maintained. Euro Biom works with hospital procurement teams, specialist distributors and NGO supply programmes across both regions to ensure reliable access to the medicines that manage these conditions.
Our antihypertensive portfolio spans all major pharmacological classes. ACE inhibitors available include ramipril, lisinopril and enalapril in multiple strengths. Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) in our range include losartan, valsartan, olmesartan, candesartan and irbesartan. Calcium channel blockers such as amlodipine, diltiazem and nifedipine modified-release are held in stock, alongside beta-blockers including bisoprolol, atenolol, carvedilol and nebivolol. Where combination fixed-dose products are required, we can source these through our UK wholesale network or directly from manufacturers.
Lipid management is a cornerstone of cardiovascular risk reduction, and our statin range covers atorvastatin and rosuvastatin at all standard doses, as well as simvastatin and pravastatin. Non-statin agents including ezetimibe (alone and in combination) are also available. For patients with very high cardiovascular risk who require more intensive lipid lowering, we can source PCSK9 inhibitors including evolocumab and alirocumab under named patient or special import frameworks where these are not locally registered.
Diuretic therapy is essential in managing hypertension, heart failure and fluid overload across inpatient and outpatient settings. Our portfolio covers loop diuretics (furosemide, bumetanide), thiazides and thiazide-like diuretics (bendroflumethiazide, indapamide, chlorthalidone) and the aldosterone antagonist spironolactone, which also plays a key role in heart failure management. Potassium-sparing agents including amiloride are also available.
Heart Failure, Anticoagulation and Antiarrhythmic Supply
The management of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) has advanced significantly with the introduction of sacubitril/valsartan (Entresto), which has demonstrated superior outcomes over ACE inhibitor monotherapy in landmark trials. Ivabradine is used in patients with elevated resting heart rate despite beta-blocker therapy, and SGLT2 inhibitors such as dapagliflozin and empagliflozin now carry a heart failure indication. Euro Biom regularly supplies all of these agents for both hospital formulary stock and named patient use, particularly where local market availability is limited or brand continuity is required.
Anticoagulation therapy covers a broad range of clinical indications including atrial fibrillation, venous thromboembolism, mechanical heart valves and post-surgical prophylaxis. Our anticoagulant range includes warfarin (in multiple strengths), the four licensed direct oral anticoagulants (apixaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran and edoxaban) and low molecular weight heparins including enoxaparin and dalteparin. For GCC and African hospitals, where INR monitoring infrastructure varies, the shift toward DOACs has been significant, and access to the correct branded product is important for patient safety and regulatory compliance. We supply these medicines with full batch documentation and GDP-compliant cold-chain handling where required.
Antiarrhythmic medicines require careful management given narrow therapeutic indices and significant drug interaction profiles. Amiodarone remains the most widely used antiarrhythmic in hospital settings globally, and we maintain consistent stock across tablet and intravenous formulations. Flecainide, sotalol and propafenone are available for atrial and ventricular arrhythmia management. Digoxin, used in heart rate control and some cases of heart failure, is regularly requested by hospitals in Africa and the GCC where it remains part of standard formularies. Euro Biom sources these products exclusively through MHRA-licensed UK supply chains, ensuring product authenticity and traceability from manufacturer to destination.
For GCC, African and other international buyers, cardiovascular medicines present specific procurement challenges. Many products are subject to UK medicine shortages at various points in the year, requiring buyers to hold safety stock or work with a trusted wholesale partner who can source across multiple licensed suppliers. Brand-specific requirements also arise frequently: clinicians and formulary committees often specify a particular manufacturer's product, and generic substitution is not always acceptable. Euro Biom's team understands these requirements and can advise on compliant sourcing options, including named patient supply, parallel import mechanisms and direct manufacturer engagement where quantities justify it.
